Course Overview

This course is designed for teachers who wish to improve their basic English skills. Over 10 days, we will focus on essential language skills that will help teachers communicate effectively in an English-speaking classroom environment. The course emphasizes practical language use for teaching, including classroom management, speaking, listening, and basic grammar.

Course Objectives
  • Understand and use basic vocabulary and expressions commonly used in the classroom.
  • Develop speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills for everyday communication in English.
  • Use simple sentence structures and grammar to express ideas clearly.
  • Improve pronunciation and listening comprehension in English.
  • Apply English in teaching contexts, using common phrases and vocabulary appropriate for the classroom.

Schedule

DAY 1

  • Personal introductions (name, profession, etc.)
  • Basic classroom vocabulary (teacher, student, lesson, book, board, etc.)
  • Introduction to common classroom phrases
  • Group introductions and icebreaker activities
  • Practice simple dialogues for self-introduction
  • Homework: Create a short self-introduction in English.

DAY 2

  • Personal pronouns (I, you, he, she, it, we, they)
  • The verb “to be” (affirmative, negative, and interrogative)
  • Simple sentence structure (Subject + Verb + Complement)
  • Gap-fill exercises
  • Sentence-building games
  • Homework: Write five simple sentences about your daily routine.

DAY 3

  • Vocabulary related to classroom objects and furniture
  • Phrases for classroom management (e.g., “Sit down,” “Raise your hand”, “Please listen.”)
  • Basic commands and instructions
  • Role-play common classroom situations
  • Pair work to practice giving and receiving instructions
  • Homework: Create a list of 10 phrases to use in the classroom.

DAY 4

  • Numbers 1 to 100
  • Telling the time and days of the week
  • Asking and answering questions about time (e.g., “What time does the class start?”)
  • Number and time-related exercises
  • Pair discussions about schedules and daily activities
  • Homework: Write a daily schedule in English, including times.

DAY 5

  • Adjectives for describing people (e.g., tall, short, young, old)
  • Describing objects (e.g., colors, sizes, shapes)
  • Forming simple descriptive sentences
  • Pair work to describe people or objects
  • Vocabulary-building exercises
  • Homework: Describe a colleague or classroom object in 5 sentences.

DAY 6

  • Vocabulary related to places in the school (e.g., library, cafeteria, office)
  • Phrases for giving and asking for directions (e.g., “Where is the bathroom?”, “Go straight, then turn left.”)
  • Role-play asking for and giving directions
  • Map-reading exercises (real or virtual)
  • Homework: Write directions to your classroom in English.

DAY 7

  • Present Simple tense (affirmative, negative, and interrogative)
  • Vocabulary for common daily activities (e.g., teaching, reading, writing, meeting)
  • Time expressions (e.g., always, usually, never)
  • Discussing daily routines using the Present Simple
  • Writing short paragraphs about daily activities
  • Homework: Write a short text about your typical day at school.

DAY 8

  • Using the imperative for giving instructions (e.g., “Open your book,” “Write your name.”)
  • Phrasal verbs related to classroom tasks (e.g., “hand in,” “look up,” “take out”)
  • Practice giving clear and concise instructions
  • Pair exercises to explain tasks and activities
  • Homework: Prepare a list of instructions you might use in class.

DAY 9

  • Phrases for making polite requests (e.g., “Could you please help me?” “Can I ask a question?”)
  • Offering help or assistance (e.g., “Would you like some help?”)
  • Role-playing scenarios where requests and offers are made
  • Group discussion about common classroom needs and help
  • Homework: Write a dialogue where you make a request and offer assistance.

DAY 10

  • Review of key vocabulary and grammar covered during the course
  • Practice of classroom-related conversations
  • Preparation for real-life situations in an English-speaking classroom
  • Group review games (e.g., vocabulary bingo, sentence-building relay)
  • Final role-playing and Q&A session
  • Homework: Final assignment: Write a lesson plan in English using some of the language and phrases learned.

Price

All expenses can be covered through a Knowledge Acquisition (KA) subsidy within the Erasmus+ initiative. This is a 10-day training course in which Mobility Friends imposes a fee of 700€ per attendee, in courses located in the cities of the continent and  Madeira island. The fee for Azores island is 960€ per attendee.

The price includes the training course and a coffee break.

Important Info

Certificate

A Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to participants who attend a minimum of 80% of the course.


Schedule

The timing of classes, whether in the morning or afternoon, is determined by the provider. The schedule may vary considerably based on participants’ preferences and the trainer’s discretion regarding any modifications.


Equipment

For certain courses, it may be necessary for you to bring your own laptop. Our team will inform you in case of need.
