The Portuguese Wine Appreciation and Tasting Course is a five-day immersion into the world of Portuguese wine, designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of Portugal’s rich viticultural heritage. Participants will explore the diverse wine regions, grape varieties, and winemaking techniques that make Portuguese wines unique. The course includes expert-led tastings, vineyard visits, and the opportunity to develop practical tasting skills.

Schedule

Day 1

  • Overview of the history of winemaking in Portugal.
  • Introduction to the major wine regions in Portugal, including Douro, Alentejo, and Vinho Verde.
  • Wine classification and labeling in Portugal.
  • Tasting of a selection of Portuguese wines representing various regions.

Day 2

  • Exploration of Portuguese grape varieties, including Touriga Nacional, Alvarinho, and Baga.
  • Discussion on the diversity of wine styles produced in Portugal.
  • Guided wine tasting focusing on specific grape varietals and wine styles.

Day 3

  • Understanding the winemaking process in Portugal, from vine to bottle.
  • The concept of terroir and its importance in Portuguese wine.
  • Visiting a local winery for a behind-the-scenes tour and wine tasting.

Day 4

  • The art of pairing Portuguese wines with local cuisine.
  • Practical tips for creating harmonious wine and food combinations.
  • Certificate presentation and farewell.
  • Feedback and evaluation course.

Day 5

  • Blind wine tasting exercise to put your newfound knowledge to the test.
  • Sensory evaluation and descriptive tasting notes.
  • Wine Vineyard tour: Visit the Douro Vinhateiro Region with wine tasting experience.

Price

All expenses can be covered through a Knowledge Acquisition (KA) subsidy within the Erasmus+ initiative. This is a 5-day training course in which Mobility Friends imposes a fee of 450 euros per attendee, in courses located in the cities of the continent (Braga, Porto, Barcelos, and Póvoa de Varzim). The price includes the training course and visits to a local vineyard and the Douro Valley (with an opportunity for wine tasting at the vineyard).

Certificate

A Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to participants who attend minimum of 80% of the course.


Schedule

The time of classes, whether in the morning or afternoon is determined by the provider. The schedule may vary considerably based on participants’ preferences and the trainer’s discretion regarding any modifications.

For certain courses, it may be necessary for you to bring your own laptop. Our team will inform you in case of need.
